Lest we forget

Today's Remembrance Day Service at Glen Cairn United Church began with the bagpipe soloist playing Amazing Grace. This was followed by the singing of the hymn, "O God our help in Ages Past." The next musical part of the service was the haunting rendition, by the men's choir, Gabriel's Chorus, of the anthem, "Prayer of the Children. " Click on the link above to hear the Baylor Men's Choir version.

The "Prayer of the Children" was written in memory of the children of Yugoslavia in light of the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s. It is a memorable ode to all the children affected by the scourge of war.

The phrase at the end of the piece is in Serbo-Croation: "dali cuje te sve djecje molitve" which translates as "Do you hear all the children's prayers?"

Other parts of the service included the reading of "In Flanders Fields" as well as a choral version of that poem. The Last Post, silent remembrance and Reveille, followed by "O Canada" were also traditional parts of this Act of Remembrance.

This was a service of remembrance not to forget.
