The next basket with spirals.

My next attempt at making a basket with spirals worked out well, but not quite the way I had visualised. You can see the spirals much better when you click on the images. In this instance I have formed spirals on the upper half of the inside of the basket. These were intended to be spirals on the outside going in an anti-clockwise direction. However, the result is quite pleasing.

The outside spirals on the lower half match those on the inside for the upper half.

My next spiral basket will be another attempt at spirals that reverse direction, not reverse surface!

A waste paper basket with spirals

Its been a long time since I made a basket with a spiral design. I had to look up how to do it. Was it to weave with three weavers, one a contrasting colour, over a number of stakes divided by three less one, or three plus one? For the outside spiral shown here, it was three minus one, so the 32 stakes were the necessary number.

I will make another one with green contrasting colour, and weave half its height as regular three rod waling, and then the rest as reverse three rod waling. That should produce a spiral and a reverse spiral too.

Then I will weave a shallow bowl with the spiral on the inside.

As you can see the basket also could function as a plant stand.
