Children of Togo and Ghana

Early this year, Abdou Amidou, shown here, collected a 40 foot container load of toys, clothes and school supplies for impoverished rural children in his homeland of Togo, and neighboring Ghana. He raised funds to ship the container there, flew to Togo, guided the contents through customs, rented trucks to deliver the materials to rural schools, and brought back photos and videos of how the supplies were received.

We know Abdou as one of the caregivers of our son, Adrian, a person with autism. Last year, when he asked if we would personally support his campaign, we not only agreed but lead a campaign at our church, Glen Cairn United Church, to seek congregational support for his mission too. Support from the church was overwhelming.

Abdou returned to the church in November as part of his mission to collect for a second container of material to be sent to Togo and Ghana early next year. Once more, there was a great deal of support from the church. November's Outreach Mission was designated, "Children of Togo and Ghana."

Abdou has support from many people and organisations throughout Ottawa. We are pleased to be able to be a part of this support.
