Fund raising for the sponsorship of a refugee family from Afghanistan

This is a youtube version of one of the songs performed in concert last night, June 1st, at a fundraiser on behalf of the Kanata Stittsville Refugee Support Group. The concert was held at the St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kanata, one of the seven churches that are members of this refugee support group.

Since 1996, these churches have supported families and individuals from a variety of countries. Last night's concert was the first fundraiser to help support efforts to bring into Canada a six-member Afghan refugee family displaced to a refugee camp in Tajikistan. Refugee sponsorship can be a long and arduous process. It took four years to bring a Somali refugee to Canada, for example.

I am the Glen Cairn United Church's representative on the Refugee Support Group. The Big Soul Project choir gave its support to our fundraising efforts in a packed house last night at St. Paul's. Seventy-five members of the choir, together with its band, gave an exhilarating and stirring concert that raised substantial funds to initiate this campaign. This is a good start to what promises to be a long, but worthwhile campaign.

NOTE: The concert raised $5 765.00, an excellent start.
