The front garden is a riot of colour.
The side gardens by the bus stop are equally vibrant.
And the willow is not yet dominating this corner, growing back to this height after being cut to a few inches above ground level for spring-time harvesting.
And the individual flowers are beautiful.

The Fall garden
Following the spring and summer drought, the Maple trees do not have the usual vibrant colours. Our neighbour's tree, however, is quite beautiful.
The fall perennials are still doing well in our front garden.
And there are splashes of colour in the sections that were disturbed by the roadwork from our driveway entrance to the corner of Castlefrank,
Even the transplanted sedums are doing well this Fall.
The hydrangea at the corner is blooming nicely despite being shaded by the willows.
And the Sweet Williams (?) survive from year to year in the shade of the purple smoke bush.
The hostas are showing the affects of the cooler temperatures.
But our neighbours backyard tree shows all its glory.
I do not remember the name of this shrub, but its white berries stand out well.
And the last rose of the season hangs on.

August flowers
Today's blog is a series of pictures of flowers in bloom today in my garden. These beautiful blooms take my mind off the weather at the fringes of Hurricane Irene that seriously affected sales at the Merrickville Show today. The cool temperatures, the blustery winds and the threat of rain kept most people away. I had zero sales today. Several of the smaller tents sailed away before the organisers of the show called it off at 1 30 pm.

This morning the destination for our bike ride was the flower gardens at the Central Experimental Farm. Enjoy.

The delights of the spring garden
Spring is finally here with thunder storms and high winds. New spring flowers seem to pop up every day. The hyacinths are just beginning to bloom.
The white flowers here look lovely but we do not know what they are called. Suggestions please!
The daffodils are out today and are blowing in the wind.
And I was able to make a start on digging in the compost I spread over my vegetable gardens last fall. Every year, says Anne, I say the same thing at this wonderful time of year. "The soil is beautiful and easy to work." Its good, friable, enriched with humus, and well drained. I even find shells in the soil, evidence this area was a shore line in years gone by.
I have more sections of the vegetable gardens to dig over. One section is already planted with peas and onion sets. Others will be planted with potatoes, carrots, beans, tomatoes and cucumber in three or four weeks time when frost danger is over.
