Arthur Simo: an artist on Etsy and a person with autism.

The very first purchase I made from Etsy was from a young Florida based artist, named Arthur Simo. Arthur is a young man with autism. He paints his original pictures, tells his Mum what the painting is about, and she then posts the picture and the story on Etsy.

Encounter Folk Art Original Raw Painting

Description

This painting is about an encounter between two far away planets, they are very different on size and customs. Each one brought a document on each other language to communicate the meaning of the encounter. Hopefully they will be able to interchange knowledge.

What I write here is what Arthur explains me about his paintings. He will sign all his work and he will paint different things everytime because his paintings are part of his feelings and thoughts on a daily basis. You will be the only one having this original painting. It is great to collect or give it as a present.

The size of this paintings 9" by 12" paper, watercolor, crayons and markers.

Mars Discovery Outsider Folk Art Rare

Description

This painting is about a mission to Mars and a group of astronauts were searching for any life form. One of them found something and after he touch it, it became real, it moves and laughs, but it came out of hot lava under a rock, she is radioactive and can kill humans. She looks friendly and she wants to communicate.

What I write here is what Arthur explains me about his paintings. He will sign all his work and he will paint different things everytime because his paintings are part of his feelings and thoughts on a daily basis. You will be the only one having this original painting. It is great to collect or give it as a present.

These are just two examples of his creative work and his vivid imagination.

To see more of his work go to www.Etsy.com, and check out his work under the name of arthursimo. Enjoy!

Market Basket

I added another Market Basket to my Etsy shop today. It will also accompany me to the Carp Fairgrounds on the Thanksgiving weekend (Canadian) and to the Glebe on Halloween weekend. There I will be taking part in exhibitions and shows.

The Carp show is hosted by the West Carleton Arts Society and features the work of artists and artisans from the western suburbs and the countryside to the west of Ottawa. On Saturday the 10th the Exhibition coincides with the Carp Farmers Market and opens from 8 00 am to 4 oo pm.

The Ottawa Valley Weavers and Spinners Guild 60th Anniversary Exhibition and Show will feature a variety of spinners, weavers and makers of hand-made textile goods. Its title. "More than just cloth" does not really do justice to the quality and range of items for sale their. High end goodies!

500 Baskets: A book to inspire.

When I need inspiration in my basket-making, I turn to "500 Baskets: a celebration of the basket makers art", Edited by Susan Mowery Kieffer, published by Lark Books of New York in 2006. the works there are awesome and awe inspiring.

Three examples are shown here. Brian Jewett's basket is made from garden hose, cable ties and valve handles. "Both the cactus form and the garden hose are strong water symbols, speaking to both conservation and consumption."

The work of Joan. E. Scantz, made from peeled and unpeeled willow, is much more traditional in style, but is a particularly striking example of how traditional styles can be so modern too.

Leslee Ann Burtt's work uses the traditional materials of seagrass, reed and cedar bark and couples them with a mule-deer antler in a striking and evocative manner.

These are just three examples of the works in this wonderful book. My work can only be a pale shadow compared to such expertise, design, and creativity.

Catherine Gutsche: artist.

My introduction to the on-line marketing system called "etsy" and to blogging came via an artist friend, Catherine Gutsche. Catherine invited me to join etsy and then challenged me to blog. Recently she added photographs of three of my baskets to her blog after asking me for the code from which to do this. That was another task in itself, finding, copying and pasting that code! Today, curtesy of Anne, three examples of Catherine's work are added to my blog as well as a link to her etsy shop. Look, browse and enjoy.
