The Colossal Cave and environs: another Tucson tourist draw

Anne and I, the intrepid explorers of tourist attractions, visited the nearby mountains to Tucson to investigate the local Colossal Caves. (Anne also acted as a human sun dial around noon time.)

The caves were in limestone areas of the snow capped mountains of the Sonoran Desert.

The caves were interesting, and the stories that accompanied our one hour guided tour kept us engaged, but they were no match for the Mammoth Caves of Kentucky we saw so many years ago.

The caves here were "dry", that is no longer receiving any water to continue the process of making stalagmites and stagtites.
