Disappointed Geordies

Neighbours from up the street had relatives visiting over Christmas. Their relatives were from Newcastle-on-Tyne, Geordies. They were really disappointed by the lack of snow in Ottawa and the mild temperatures. They had left Tyneside anticipating very cold temperatures and deep snow. They returned to snowy England yesterday.

As you can see, today the snow is melting once more with the temperature reaching plus six or seven degrees celcius. At this rate the likelihood of the Rideau Canal being frozen enough for skating seems quite low.
