We received several calendars again this year. One in particular is intriguing. It is a collection of historic photographs of people and scenes from out home town of Stoke-on-Trent. This image, of boys playing in the wasteland behind some pot banks could well have been a portrait of my brother and I with friends. Shorts, long socks, sticks and mud. What better toys are there?
Another picture dates from the 1930s, a period when my elder sisters were just beginning school. I will ask them if unisex clothing was the norm when they began their education.
