On the 17th of May 2011, the Geneva Centre for Autism's Foundation will be holding its second annual gala fundraising spectacular, THE AUTISTS. I will be donating the basketry items shown here to the silent auction that is part of this fundraiser in Toronto, Ontario.
"The Autists Gala features a glittering champagne reception; gourmet cuisine; a live art auction curated by Charles Pachter with works by top Canadian and International artists; a silent auction as well as exciting musical performances alongside art and entertainment by gifted youth with ASD,"
People may contact Carolyn Ayson, Silent Auction Chair at 416 481 1294 or by email: carolyn416@gmail.com for further information.
Hi John, I am a follower of your blog. I e-mailed you sometime last week. Not sure if you got my e-mail. I was wondering about the reverse three rod weaving. Could it be used on the side of a baktet? I do the regular three rod weaving. Not sure how many rows of the reverse three rod to do to see the pattern. Maureen

I did not get your email.
ReplyDeleteIf you click on one of the baskets shown here in my etsy shop, then you can check out three examples of baskets I made with three-rod spiral designs. Check out the wicker fruit basket with reversing spirals, the waste paper basket with outside spirals, and the waste paper basket with two spirals. Flo Hoppe's Wicker Basketry states: for an inside spiral work three-rod waling over a number of spokes divisible by three plus one.
For reverse spirals on the outside, work three-rod waling over a number of spokes divisible by three minus one. To reverse the spiral cut off all three weavers and place them behind the same spokes but going in the same direction. (I.e switch fromweaving from left to right to weaving from right to left.)
Use two or thee contrasting colours for the weavers.
I hope this helps.
OOPS! To reverse the spiral place behind the same spokes but going in the OPPOSITE direction.
